In which a cat has a blog →
It’s still more interesting than my blog. And probably better than my Twitter stream too. Sad.
Look who's back
It’s been over a year but I thought, what the Hell, I might as well bang on the side of this blog to see what falls out. And, for starters, apparently that’s a different theme. With the old Disqus comments disabled (for now) while I figure out how this new “replies” thing works at Tumblr.
Hopefully some new posts will appear here too. We’ll see. Let’s not go...

Ass pennies. Priceless.
Well, I’ll certainly have to try that. After, of course, I melt every penny that I own now.

Monkeys that floss with human hair. And with better hygiene than some people I know. Are we being abandoned by evolution?

Twice weekly and in video format. Who knew!

I can’t figure out if this parrot is trying to do Jake or Elwood. Maybe Ray.
Bill Maher returns on February 20, thus justifying my subscription to HBO. Thank you, Bill! From the look of this promo clip, he’s already in shape to annoy and offend vast numbers of viewers. I’m looking forward to it.

Advice from the late Kurt Vonnegut on writing →
This is one of the best short pieces on writing style I’ve ever read. I love that it’s a numbered list but Vonnegut doesn’t try to pad it out to an even ten platitudes. Just good, solid words of common sense from a man who knew how to do it himself.
Not that I'm superstitious about Friday the 13th →
But I would think it’s a bit unusual that Unix time will reach 1,234,567,890 on Friday, February 13, 2009! That’s “1234567890” numerically. All the digits in order. Look at the top row of your keyboard. (No, below the function keys!) Got it? Don’t you think that’s odd too?
I don’t believe in curses but this is another portent that doesn’t bode well...
List of people who have mysteriously disappeared →
Via a friend on Twitter, this list may or may not get your freak on even more than the previous “deaths” list I posted. And it confirms my theory that the world is large and populous enough for random chance to get really twisted.
Note to self: look for some more frivolous cat videos to lighten the mood here.
List of unusual deaths →
There really is a Wikipedia page for everything. Seriously, this is both riveting and revolting, amusing and depressing. I almost feel unclean after reading it. My advice: don’t follow the the links in the “See also” section at the bottom of the page if you want to sleep tonight.
More whacky cat videos. Lucky for me I wasn’t drinking milk when I watched this the first time.
I swear: I don’t have a cat and I don’t especially like them. Or dislike them. I just keep finding these videos. I’m a “dog” person. Although, I admit my dogs haven’t been this entertaining … lately.
Frank Darabont eulogies James Whitmore →
Apparently legendary actor James Whitmore passed away today. Very sad.
And... we're back
I forgot to mention in the previous post that the whole point of that activity was for me to start blogging again, not just to highlight the fine rhetoric of our president.
Seriously, I think it’s perfectly normally not to blog for six or seven months at a time and then just pick up as if nothing happened. Who doesn’t do that? Except, of course, for those trying to maintain actual...
President Obama kicks some partisan butt and rallies House Democrats about the economic recovery plan at a private retreat. Now if he would just say the same thing to the public we might get that plan passed into law.

Backstabbing and conflicting strategies behind... →
I always suspected Hillary Clinton might be a bad manager. A capital crime to a pointy hair like myself. And my suspicion was one of the reasons I didn’t vote for her in the primary. I had no idea how bad. This piece by Joshua Green from “The Atlantic” lays her broken campaign open via internal emails and memos. Gripping and sad. Very sad.
Probably why I'm not posting as much to this... →
Not only is this an explanation of why Twitter hasn’t failed yet but it gives several reasons why I’m not posting as much to this tumblelog. Not only is the 140 character limit actually liberating but it’s all about the audience.

Dexter Season 3. This looks good. Can’t wait!
McCain meltdown →
Joe Klein calls Senator McCain “shockingly unpresidential” for his “scurrilous statement” claiming that Senator Obama “would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign.” I think he’s right. In frustration McCain has jumped the shark on his campaign.
On McCain's chances to win the election →
Michael Grunwald thinks that, realistically, McCain doesn’t have much of one. The last paragraph is the key:
“That doesn’t mean that anything’s probable. The media will try to preserve the illusion of a toss-up; you’ll keep seeing ‘Obama Leads, But Voters Have Concerns’ headlines. But when Democrats are winning blood-red congressional districts in...
